Nancy Kasongo – 2017 Recipient

CONGRATULATIONS To Ms. NANCY KASONGO!

Recipient of the 2017 MU-Zambia Global Health Research Elective

It is with great joy we announce the recipient of the first MU-Zambia Global Health Research Elective award to Ms. Nancy Kasongo. The elective is a collaboration between the School of Medicine and MU African Interdisciplinary Studies Hub. The effort is financially supported by the Office of Research, Office of Vice Provost for International Program, and the International Center.

Ms. Kasongo is a 4th-year medical student at Copperbelt University School of Medicine in Zambia – Southern Africa.  Ms. Kasongo is an outstanding and dedicated medical student selected for her academic achievement and determination. She understands the academic rigors of medical school, the impact of clinical care and research on patient outcomes.

Ms. Kasongo told us that as a child, she requested to enroll in extra courses during her vacations to “keep her mind active”. Her dedication and hard work have led her to be the recipient of multiple awards in medical school including the best student. She was also selected to represent her medical school at the International Youth Fellowship Camp in South Korea in 2016.

During her time at MU, Ms. Kasongo will be immersed in research activities, ethics education, career workshops including discussions with Mizzou medical school students and faculty. Dr. Lincoln Sheets, Director of Health Informatics, is serving as her primary mentor. Lastly, her elective will conclude with a poster presentation at the end of the program.
